I hope that everyone is having a lovely holiday season! We attended Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and it was breathtaking. The mass was celebrated by Cardinal Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, on December 25 at midnight.
Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
Around 2500 people attend Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral every year, a tradition that dates back to 1879. Because of my pregnancy, we did not travel to Florida to spend the holidays with family and stayed in the city instead. This was our second time attending Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s, but this one was extra special for sure!
What Time is Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral
While the answer to this question seems obvious, not all churches start Christmas Eve Mass at the same time, some start one hour earlier. St. Patrick’s Cathedral begins Midnight Mass at 12:00 AM on December 25th.
How To Get Tickets to Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s in NYC
Attending Midnight Mass at St. Patrick’s Cathedral requires a ticket.
While tickets are free, there are two ways to get them. If you are a parishioner, you can request tickets at the cathedral, and if you are not a parishioner, you need to apply to the lottery. If you win a ticket, the cathedral will contact you at the end of November. You can submit an entry to the lottery through the cathedral’s website.
If you are unable to obtain a ticket for Midnight Mass, there are several Masses during Christmas Day that you can attend.
We live our faith all year round, and it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be surrounded by other parishioners and worshipers from all over the world during this holiday. To be at this beautiful cathedral, on this night, is just so special.
