Coffee Shops in New York City You Need to Try
Living in New York City is quite a dream. Springtime in the city is probably my favorite of the year, I love photographing the cherry blossoms in April, yellow tulips in May, and walking around the city, especially Greenwich Village and the Upper East Side. While strolling around, stopping for a latte, a cappuccino or a mocha is always a delightful treat, so I’m taking you to these coffee shops across the big apple to tempt you to try them this Spring.
1) Ralph’s Coffee
Directly on Madison Avenue – right next door to Ralph Lauren Women’s Flagship store – is the elegant in-store coffee shop owned by Ralph Lauren (the man, the myth, the legend). Whenever I visit one of my two favorite museums located in the Upper East Side (The Frick or the MET) I stop by Ralph’s Coffee to enjoy a cup of matcha latte. The coffee shop is open daily from 8:00am to 6:00pm, except on weekends when it closes at 5:00pm. If this location is not near to you, Ralph’s Coffee has a second coffee shop on 5th Avenue and 21st street, as well as Ralph’s Coffee Truck parked across Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
Address: Ralph’s Coffee, 888 Madison Ave., New York, NY 10021
2) Angelina Paris
In the early 1900s, Coco Chanel and the biggest French fashion designers gathered in the famous Angelina tea room located in Paris. I became familiar with Angelina over a decade ago, while I was living and studying in Paris. My girlfriends and I loved sitting in the stunning main room of the legendary 1903 tea room situated on Rue de Rivoli. In November 2020, when it was announced that the popular French patisserie would open its first US location in New York City I could not believe it. I always order their signature Mont-Blanc tea – it is amazing!
Address: Angelina Paris, 1050 6th Ave., New York, NY 10018
Another authentic French experience to be had in New York City includes Ladurée, one of the world’s best-known sellers of the colorful ‘macarons.’ There are two Ladurée cafés, the largest one can be found in SoHo, it has three rooms and a large outdoor patio that makes for a wonderful experience in good weather. I recently stopped for a late lunch, ordered their lentil soup (delicious!), a matcha latte and their millefeuille puff pastry. The smaller Ladurée café is located on 864 Madison Avenue.
Address: Ladurée SoHo, 398 W Broadway, New York, NY 10012
4) Remi Flower & Coffee
This adorable coffee shop is one of my latest discoveries. Remi Flower & Coffee is a one-stop shop for flowers, plants, and coffee. If you are in need of custom floral arrangements, decorative plants, or a perfect looking latte, this cozy place is definitely for you. Their lavender latte was so good, and the chocolate chip (GF) cookies were incredible. This unique flower and coffee shop has two locations that are walking distance from each other, and they open daily from 8:00am to 6:00pm.
Address: Remi Flower & Coffee, 906 2nd Ave., New York, NY 10017
With a dozen locations spread throughout Manhattan, you will easily find a Maman café near you. Maman is a bakery that offers French-influenced pastries in rustic-chic spaces. My husband and I usually order a mocha and a honey lavender latte, and while he enjoys their chocolate chip cookies, I love their Farmhouse granola parfait (GF). Maman King is their newest (and largest) location situated in the heart of SoHo – perfect for private micro events as well.
Address: Maman, 375 Hudson St., New York, NY 10014
6) Sogno Toscano
SHOP OUTFIT DETAILS:
A charming, Tuscan-inspired Italian café that offers delicious gourmet foods, Italian wines and coffee. Sogno Toscano’s menu features everything from truffle paninis, Burrata e Crudo, salads and pasta. If you are looking for a true Italian experience in New York City, this place is for you! Whenever I am in the area, I stop by and pick up a latte to go! Otherwise, I love coming here for a quick lunch – their indoor area is very cute, they have several tables outside, and their sandwiches are fantastic!
Address: Sogno Toscano, 17 Perry St, New York, NY 10014
7) Felix Roasting Co.
This stylish coffee shop offers artful expresso drinks, coffee cocktails, and organic blends. It has two Manhattan locations (in NoMad and SoHo), both decorated with pink velvety decor, and dramatic blue walls. This guide would not have been complete without mentioning this Instagrammable cafe! If you prefer a spacious place to enjoy coffee while working remotely, try the one in NoMad, otherwise stop by the one in SoHo!
Address: Felix Roasting Co., 450 Park Ave S, New York, NY 10016
8) % ARABICA
You probably recognize these iconic % coffee cups that are now ubiquitous! I find the story behind this coffee shop to be quite interesting since it started in Tokyo, Japan. Not only does this café serve a unique specialty coffee, this location also offers one of the best views of Brooklyn Bridge. As you can see in the image above, during our last visit to % Arabica, we ordered a latte and an affogato – a must-try!
Address: % Arabica Dumbo Roastery, 20 Old Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11201
These cafés all have a photo-worthy backdrop – hope you like them!
