Hancock St. is the West Village’s newest resident, serving American bistro fare with a firm focus on offering classic dishes with an elevated twist. Headed by John McDonald (founder of Mercer Street Hospitality) and Chef Ryan Schmidtberger (previously of Lure Fishbar), we were invited to try their brunch dishes and cocktails.
We opted for the Bloody Mary Cart, and once the server arrived with the cart, he offered us a little taste of the three available choices to help us pick one: Traditional Tomato, Yellow Tomato & Mango, or Green Tomatillo & Cucumber. I love mango so that was an easy choice for me, and my husband picked the one with refreshing cucumber – both were delicious!
Our starter was perfect – the House Smoked Salmon Bruschetta, a delightful dish with tzitziki, olives, capers, tomatoes and lettuce (truly unique!).
Then it was on to the main dishes. My husband opted for the Brioche French Toast, served with a sliced banana, salted caramel sauce, and maple syrup. I will say that I have always been a french toast lover, and this is probably the best french toast I’ve ever tried.
My Gem Lettuce & Avocado Salad hit the spot. It included a medley of tomatoes, cucumber, celery, and caesar dressing. The salad was refreshing and satisfying.
Hancock St. is my new favorite West Village eatery for a modern take on American cuisine. Sit at one of the booths, choose any of their flavorful cocktails and then order any of their tasty dishes!
I definitely love elegant restaurants that prioritize treating their guests to impeccable white tablecloths, enjoyable music, and superb service.
We can’t wait to come back!
Thank you to the Hancock St. team for a perfect brunch.
