My First Summer in New York
Yesterday my fiancé and I celebrated eleven months in New York City (already?!). Time flies even during a pandemic, and now it’s official – I’ve experienced all four seasons since moving from the Sunshine State to the Big Apple last September.
While I was convinced that I would miss Florida’s tropical weather, that has not been the case… You might ask: how come? Because the forecast has read 90+ degrees more times than I had anticipated.
One of the silver linings of this unprecedented “summer in quarantine” has been spending time with him. I’ve mentioned before that during our relationship, we did about a year of long-distance while he finished his master’s degree. Now, after spending the last four months sheltering together inside our apartment, I can honestly say that I prefer this over not seeing him for weeks at a time!
With gatherings limited and travel restricted, we got creative: we cooked my favorite recipes more, ordered take-out once a week (mostly Thai or Greek food!), enjoyed cocktails on the terrace (almost every night), rode bikes around Central Park, watched tons of Netflix series (we both enjoyed “The Spy” and “Unauthorized Living”), took the pups on longer walks, and handled lots of wedding tasks.
I appreciate the conscious process of slowing down daily, and of admiring the beauty around me (something that I credit my older dog for teaching me more than seven years ago). The free time that we’ve been gifted with during this pandemic, has allowed me to practice more of that. And just because Summer 2020 has been different in more ways than one, it doesn’t mean we can’t get creative and do more of what we love.
I hope you and your family are staying safe during this time. Lots of love… Xx
