How To Keep a Baby Warm in New York City During Winter
If you need help keeping your baby warm during the winter, you are in the right place! As the mother of a ten-month-old in New York City, thriving in the winter is important!
Getting through winter in New York City with a baby might not be the easiest, but the appropriate layers and stroller accessories do help! I purchased everything our baby would need ahead of time, so once it got chilly, we were ready!
Here is what has been most helpful for our baby during Fall and Winter!
Baby Essentials for Winter
1. Footmuff for the Stroller
I ordered a footmuff for our stroller during the first week of October because as a New Yorker, I know that the temperatures can randomly drop once autumn starts. We have the UPPAbaby Vista stroller, so I opted for the brand’s ultra-plush footmuff since it is available in the same color as the stroller.
Footmuffs are essential for keeping your baby warm during winter, providing ultimate coverage from cold weather. I am so happy with it!
- Machine washable
- Soft and cozy fleece lining
- Full coverage neck warmer and adjustable hood
- Compatible with UPPAbaby Vista, Cruz, Minu, and Ridge
- Comfort rating of -5˚F/-20˚C, while wearing only one layer of clothing
- Suitable for children from 3 months to 33 inches

2. Rain and Wind Cover for the Stroller
I initially purchased this stroller rain cover to protect our baby when it rains, but once I started seeing other moms in New York City use it as protection from wind I thought that was brilliant and decided to do the same.
It’s an inexpensive shield that could save your little one from catching a cold, making it an absolute must-have – in my opinion.

3. Warm Layers
When it comes to your infant, dressing in layers is very helpful. I ordered most of my baby’s warm layers from H&M Kids and Gap Kids!
Snowsuits are useful if you will be spending a lot of time outside. Because we spend most of our time indoors (in restaurants, coffee shops, or museums) I prefer to dress our baby with layers that I can easily remove once we are inside where there are heaters.

4. Fleece Booties
These cozy fleece booties have been a fantastic find! They come in several colors, and I highly recommend sizing up.
5. Baby Winter Hat
Your baby will need coverage for the head, neck, and ears. I love these balaclavas, they are soft in the inside, and our baby does not feel bothered by them (that’s a plus!).
