5 Fun Things to Do in Central Park this Spring
Spring in New York is beautiful, and nowhere captures the season quite like Central Park!
From cherry blossoms and tulip gardens to picnics and peaceful walks by the Reservoir, the park completely transforms after winter.
Whether you’re visiting New York City for the first time or looking for new ways to enjoy the city, Central Park is one of the best places to soak in the beauty of spring.
Here are 5 of my favorite things to do in Central Park this season – perfect for families, couples, or anyone wanting a beautiful New York spring day.
1. Wander the Conservatory Garden
The Conservatory Garden is Central Park’s formal garden, and its spectacular floral displays have made it a popular destination for proposals and weddings.
Last Saturday, we visited the Conservatory Garden while it was still in bloom with vibrant yellow and red tulip beds! It’s a quieter, hidden spot that feels almost European, and great for families, stroller walks, and escaping crowded areas. The best time to see tulips is mid-to-late April through early May.
How to get there: Take Train 6 or Bus M3 or M4 to 103rd Street, then walk about half a mile (11 minutes) towards 5th Avenue.

2. Chase the Cherry Blossoms in Peak Bloom
My sister spent the second weekend in April in New York City, and we took our little ones to see the cherry blossoms on Cherry Hill and Pilgrim Hill.
The best tip I can give you is to visit during the morning when it is less crowded and perfect for family photos!
How to get there: Mid-park by 72nd Street.

3. Rent a Sailboat at the Conservatory Water
The model boat ponds of late 19th-century Paris inspired Conservatory Water. Boating is available from April to November.
My nephew was mesmerized by the sailboats at the Conservatory Water at Central Park, so much so that my brother-in-law rented one for him for half an hour!
The sailboats are wind-powered and remote-controlled, but you don’t need a boat to enjoy! You can also watch the miniature yacht races from the benches; it’s always fun for all ages!
How to get there: Conservatory Water is located just off 5th Avenue and 74th Street.

3. Rent a Rowboat at The Boathouse
The Lake is the only area of Central Park that offers rowboats. Boating in this area of the park has been widely popular since the 1860s! Here you’ll find a 20-acre water body that connects Bethesda Terrace and the Ramble.
There’s a restaurant by the boathouse that we enjoyed last summer. I highly suggest booking a table in advance, especially during the warmer months!
Boat rentals begin on April 1st, and are available at the Boathouse on 74th!

4. Enjoy a Guided Pedicab Tour around Central Park
If you are visiting Central Park for the first time, do a Guided Pedicab Tour through Central Park! It’s an efficient way to tour the 843-acre park without the horse-drawn carriages that are finally being phased out this summer.
Here are the best options: this pedicab tour with over 7,700 positive reviews, and this pedicab tour with over 7,200 positive reviews.
One tip, though: book your Central Park pedicab tour in advance to avoid scams.
