Essentials To Keep Your Baby Warm This Winter
As a mom who lives in New York City – I’m here to help!

Winter Must-Haves for Your Baby & Toddler
Here is what I purchased for our baby, and I hope you find it helpful!
Stroller Accessories
I am starting with two stroller accessories that ward off rain, snow, and wind, making them incredibly useful during winter.
1. Footmuff for the Stroller
In New York City it starts to get cold in November, so I ordered the footmuff in October.
Footmuffs are essential for keeping your baby warm. They attach to the stroller, are easy to use, and most importantly: prevent heat loss.
We have the UPPAbaby Vista stroller, so I ordered the brand’s ultra-plush footmuff to match our stroller. I love that it is long and grows with the baby!
UPPAbaby Footmuff – Quick Facts
- Machine washable
- Soft and cozy fleece lining
- Full coverage neck warmer and adjustable hood
- Compatible with UPPAbaby’s Vista, Cruz, Minu, and Ridge
- Comfort rating of -5˚F/-20˚C, while wearing only one layer of clothing
- For children from 3 months to 33 inches
If you need a stroller, read my lengthy review of our Vista V2 Stroller. It’s a popular stroller in NYC because it is robust, has a large basket, and withstands heavy use.
If you have a different stroller, here are four universal footmuff options that will work with your stroller:
2. Rain Cover for the Stroller
I impulsively purchased this stroller rain cover to protect our baby from rain.

It’s an inexpensive shield that could save your little one from catching a cold, making it an absolute must-have – in my opinion.
You can purchase the stroller cover here.

I always keep a big blanket in the stroller’s basket to put on top of her or around her in the stroller for extra warmth.

3. Warm Layers
You will want to dress your infant in layers. I order our baby’s outfits from H&M Kids, ZARA, Mango, and Gap Kids and I size up.
Snowsuits are useful if you will be spending a lot of time outside. Because we spend most of our time indoors (in restaurants, coffee shops, or museums) I prefer to dress our baby with layers that I can easily remove once we are inside where there are heaters.
If you will be outside, you might want to get this baby snuggly bunting.

4. Winter Booties
Your baby will need something to keep their feet warm. When I looked for shoes for Ella, my top priority was to find booties that covered the ankle area.
These fleece booties have been a fantastic find. I love them because they are easy to put on and they fasten in the front with a velcro closure to keep them from falling off. They come in several colors. The booties have non-skid soles, but our baby is not crawling yet.
If your baby has started walking, you might want these water-resistant winter boots available on Amazon.

5. Winter Hat
Your baby will need coverage for the head, neck, and ears. Ella is ten months now, and I have avoided beanies because they are easy to pull off, and do not protect the neck.
I prefer, and love, these balaclavas that are soft on the inside, cover the ears and neck, and our baby does not feel bothered by them (that’s a plus!).
I purchased this fleece-lined balaclava and this fluffy one below:
