Vessel has Reopened in New York City

The Vessel reopens in New York City

New York City’s The Vessel reopened to the public on October 21, 2024. This honeycomb-like sculpture quickly became a main attraction after opening in 2019. However, it was forced to close in 2021 and remained closed until last month. I purchased tickets online and headed to Hudson Yards at the end of the month.

While climbing the intertwined stairways I enjoyed fantastic views of New York City’s skyline and the Hudson River.

At the end of this article, I am sharing a close-up of the floor-to-ceiling steel mesh barriers that have been added as new safety measures.

The Vessel is located across from The Shops at Hudson Yards.

NYC residents can visit The Vessel for free, but only on Thursdays.

Biltmore looks beautiful all year round, so it depends on your interests! If you are looking for autumn foliage, then October is the best month. November and December offer Christmas at Biltmore, and during Spring and Summer, you can explore the gardens, grounds, and trails.

Arrive early, and if possible book a private guided tour.
After touring the house, explore the gardens and trails.
Take a break and grab lunch at Stable Cafe.

Wear your most comfortable shoes, you will be doing a lot of walking!

This was our first time on the property – perfect for a romantic weekend, an anniversary, or a one-of-a-kind getaway.

Staying at The Inn on Biltmore Estate was a special experience from the moment we stepped foot in the door. The gracious hospitality at The Inn was outstanding, and the estate was out of a fairytale.

3-DAY-STAY-THE-INN-BILTMORE-ESTATE-ITINERARY

BILTMORE ESTATE ITINERARY – DAY 1

Check-in at The Inn on Biltmore Estate

We arrived in the afternoon and were thrilled to check into The Inn, a castle-like resort located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

The interior of this luxurious hotel and lobby is elegant, and where you will feel transported to a past era of grandeur.

They greeted us with champagne, a bottle of Biltmore wine, and hors d’oeuvres. We stayed in a spacious Grand King Room with Mountain View and Chateau Tier amenities that included 24-hour access to the Butler’s pantry. Our room featured a king bed, an elegant seating area, a desk, and a bathroom with a separate bathtub and shower.

In the photos below you can see the view that we enjoyed from our room, overlooking the mountains, and the Biltmore’s Winery and Farm Village.

Red Wine and Chocolate Tasting in The Winery

After settling in, we headed over to Antler Hill Village for a Red Wine and Chocolate Tasting that we had scheduled inside The Winery. This specific tasting is offered daily inside Biltmore’s Winery and requires a reservation, but you can also take advantage of a complimentary wine tasting in the village.

We were a group of twenty people and we enjoyed locally produced artisan chocolates from French Broad Chocolate as well as various wines. The tasting lasted 45 minutes, our guide was fantastic, and we learned a lot!

You will get to experience how artisanal chocolate can enhance the flavor of wonderful red wines – I thoroughly recommend this tour!

Elegant Dinner in The Dining Room at The Inn

For dinner on our first night, we headed to the elegant Dining Room at The Inn, one of the “Most Romantic Restaurants in America!” This was a very special night for us as we had celebrated our wedding anniversary just a few days earlier!

The caramel apple salad was absolutely divine, and I ordered the filet mignon for my main course. My husband had the pastures of paradise salad and the osso bucco. Every dish was superb!

We ended the night with a creme brulee and an upside-down cake, and were excited about everything planned for day two!

There is a fireplace in the Library Lounge of The Inn that is the perfect place to relax with your favorite book or the company of a loved one – we stopped by there before we made our way to our room. You can enjoy a cocktail or glass of Biltmore wine at night!

BILTMORE ESTATE ITINERARY – DAY 2

Enjoy breakfast overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains

We woke up extra early to make the most of day two! I highly recommend arriving early for breakfast at the Dining Room at The Inn, so that you can grab a table by the window and delight yourself with the most beautiful views of the mountains.

Tour the Biltmore House with a Guide

After a delicious breakfast, we got ready for a busy day ahead! We had 9:00 AM reservations for an Expert-Guided Tour of America’s Largest Home and planned on visiting the gardens and grounds right after.

On this guided tour, you will explore the house from the perspectives of the Vanderbilts’ very first guests, while having access to rarely-accessed areas.

Biltmore House is grand and elegant. It was built between 1889 and 1895 by George W. Vanderbilt and it had 250 rooms, including 35 bedrooms for family and guests, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, three kitchens, an indoor pool, a library with 10,000 books, and priceless artworks on every wall.

Explore Biltmore Gardens and Conservatory

The guided tour with Jim was an unbelievable experience that we’ll remember forever. Just a few steps from the house you will find the Biltmore Gardens and Conservatory surrounded by an eye-catching display of precious mums!

No specific reservation time is required for the gardens and conservatory.

Lunch in the Stable Cafe

There are over a dozen dining options on the estate. Around 2:00 PM we paused for lunch at the Stable Cafe where I had the best pulled pork sandwich in my life!

The Stable Cafe offers southern favorites in a historic setting that was once the estate’s horse stable. You will find this spot adjacent to Biltmore House.

From now until January 2024, you can take advantage of the Italian Renaissance Alive Art Exhibit, a must-see event showcasing George Vanderbilt’s favorite artworks, and making its world premiere at Biltmore.

Dinner in the Bistro

At night we had dinner at the Bistro in Antler Hill Village, and I intend to recreate the mushroom pappardelle (sherry port braised mushrooms, peas, house-made pappardelle pasta) that I ordered that night!!

My vanilla pear mule mocktail and bruschetta were so good!

The banana pudding we ordered reminded me of this lovely banana pudding recipe that I shared earlier this year on my blog – have you seen it?!

BILTMORE ESTATE ITINERARY – DAY 3

Breakfast & explore the area around The Inn

We woke up early again for another beautiful sunrise and a walk around the property. Then we headed over to the Dining Room, for our last breakfast at The Inn. I will definitely miss these mountain views!

The Biltmore Estate’s property includes 8,000 acres of rolling hills, gardens, and sustaining farms, which are best experienced with a stay at The Inn on Biltmore Estate.

Couples Massage Treatments at The Spa at The Inn

Our last experience included a couple’s massage at The Spa located on the third floor of The Inn! This was the perfect way to wrap up our stay! After the massage, we packed our bags and headed back to New York City feeling refreshed and rejuvenated!

When it comes to taking photos in New York City, Central Park is an absolute dream for photographers – all year round!

The park’s 843 acres feature picturesque bridges, beautiful architecture, lakes, and streams, that will serve as perfect backdrops for photos.

Photographing the park is one of my favorite things to do, so here are 12 of the best Central Park Photo Spots so you can also capture the park’s beauty.

Best Central Park Photo Locations

I’ve done dozens of photoshoots in NYC and Central Park over the years! There are a few spots in Central Park that are an absolute must for photography! This park is perfection!

Best Things to Do in Central Park

1. Bethesda Terrace

First up on my list of Central Park Photo Spots is the stunning Bethesda Terrace.

Bethesda Terrace is located in the heart of Central Park. It is flanked by two grand stairways that lead down to a beautiful fountain. You likely remember this spot from Home Alone 2, The Avengers, Enchanted, One Fine Day, and Mr. Deeds!

The Mintons’ encaustic tiles, the New Brunswick sandstone, and the arches take my breath away! Taking photos at this location is not the easiest because of how busy it gets. I recommend arriving as early as possible, right after sunrise!

How to get there: Entry to the Terrace is by way of the drive at 72nd Street.

2. Gapstow Bridge

Everyone loves this location because it highlights The Plaza Hotel, New York City’s skyline, and the park all in one shot!

How to get there: Enter the park via E 62nd Street.

3. Bow Bridge

This Victorian-era bridge spans 60 feet across Central Park Lake and connects Cherry Hill and the Ramble. The graceful arc-shaped bridge provided a backdrop for Spiderman 3, Manhattan, Night At The Museum, Autumn in New York, Uptown Girls, The Way We Were, and Keeping the Faith.

This is the “Most Romantic Bridge in Central Park” and a popular location for proposals and engagement/wedding photos, so keep that in mind (it will get crowded!).

How to get there: Enter by 72nd Street, the bridge is a 3-min. walk from Bethesda Terrace.

4. The Bethesda Fountain

Next up on my list of Central Park photo spots is Bethesda Fountain.

The “Angel of the Waters” neoclassical sculpture is one of the main attractions at Bethesda Terrace. I love this area of the park!

The statue was designed by Emma Stebbins in 1868, and it measures twenty-six feet high by ninety-six feet wide.

How to get there: Find the statue mid-park at 72nd Street.

5. The Lake Viewing Area

At this location, you will get a scenic view of the lake, The San Remo Building, and Manhattan’s East Side.

While this location is pretty hidden, it is totally worth it for a stunning Central Park Instagram shot. Hundreds of proposals take place in this exact spot every year!

How to get there: The easiest way to find this location is to stay to the left after crossing the bow bridge, and then a dirt path will lead you to this spot.

6. Belvedere Castle

Belvedere Castle is a miniature castle located atop the huge rock outcrop known as Vista Rock, the second-highest natural point in Central Park.

Construction of the castle was completed in 1872, and it originally had no windows or doors, as it was intended as an open-air lookout tower.

In 1919 the U.S. Weather Bureau converted the building into a weather station, adding windows and doors, and creating offices inside the structure.

In 1983 the Central Park Conservancy renovated the building and reopened it as a visitor center.

How to get there: Belvedere Castle is just off of the 79th Street Transverse near the Turtle Pond in Central Park.

7 Great Lawn

This is a 55-acre area that is one of the most well-known lawns in the world. Many choose this spot for a picnic, sunbathe, play recreational sports, or simply enjoy the scenery.

How to get there: Mid-Park between 79th and 85th.

8 Bridle Path

The Bridle Path is 4.2 miles long and consists mainly of a softer dirt and gravel surface. The path is highly visited during April and May, also known as cherry blossom season.

9 Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir

The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir spans 106 acres and at 40 feet deep holds more than one billion gallons of water. At this spot, you will also find a super-popular jogging track that looks lovely during cherry blossom season!

How to get there: 86th to 96th Streets.

10 The Mall & Literary Walk

This is Central Park’s only formal promenade, a wide straight path lined by stands of American elms. It’s a gorgeous area and the spot where our engagement photos took place many years ago!

The southern section is known as the “Literary Walk” because it is surrounded by statues of Shakespeare, Robert Burns & other well-known literary writers.

How to get there: Mid-Park at 66th.

11 The Rock Lookout

Umpire Rock is one of Central Park’s largest and most impressive rock outcrops! The rock is a destination for climbing, exploring, and picnicking as well as enjoying views of the surrounding scenery.

How to get there: West Side at 63rd Street.

12 Oak Bridge

Oak Bridge was designed as one of the major entrances to the Ramble and a focal point in the landscape. It’s also a popular destination for birdwatchers.

The original bridge was built almost entirely in white oak and was prone to deterioration as a result. In the early 20th century, it was replaced with a simpler footbridge.

How to get there: West Side at 77th.

Best Time To Take Pictures in Central Park

Because Central Park is one of the most visited spots in New York City, I suggest you arrive at sunrise to avoid the crows.

The photos that I shared on today’s guide were taken by me immediately after sunrise, or in the early morning.

The Best Places To See Cherry Blossoms in New York 2025

Looking for cherry blossoms in New York?

As a nature lover who lives in New York, you are in the right place to learn about these must-see trees this spring. Cherry trees have beautiful flowers ranging from magenta to pale pink to white that begin to bloom in late March or early April. We’ve had a pretty warm winter, so it is expected that cherry trees will bloom earlier than usual! A characteristic of these trees is that they do not remain in flower for more than a week, and trees do not bloom all at once!

Today I’m sharing when and where you can see cherry blossoms in NYC to help you plan your visit. I also included a selection of photos that I took.

Cherry Blossoms History in New York

In 1909, Japan gifted a shipment with 2,500 cherry trees to the United States commemorating the 100th anniversary of the invention of the steamboat, and the 300th anniversary of Henry Hudson’s voyage up the Hudson River. After that shipment was lost at sea, a new shipment arrived in 1912 and was planted throughout the parks of New York.

Cherry Blossom Festivals

The Cherry Blossom Festivals have not been confirmed yet, so the dates below are tentative!

April 1, at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
April 15, at Central Park
April 26, in New York City

Update March 24, 2024 – There will be no festivals this year. Brooklyn Botanic Garden is instead celebrating cherry blossom season with events called Weekends in Bloom.

Where to Find Cherry Blossoms in New York

Cherry Blossoms in Central Park

Central Park is a dream during cherry blossom season, and hundreds of people rush with their cameras to capture cherry trees in peak bloom!

There are two main species of cherry trees in Central Park, the Yoshino Cherry tree and the Kwanzan Cherry tree.

The Yoshino Cherry is a hybrid cherry that can grow 35 to 45 feet and produces light pink, almost white, fragrant flowers.

The Kwanzan Cherry has double-petal pink flowers, which begin to bloom in early May, after the Yoshino Cherry. These trees are smaller and grow 25 to 30 feet.

How to get there: Enter the Park at West 86th Street and Central Park West. After you pass the Bridle Path, continue until Bridge No 28. Head to my TikTok and Instagram to see a video of this spot!

The best places to see cherry trees in Central Park are the Reservoir (east and west sides), Cherry Hill, Pilgrim Hill, Cedar Hill, the Glade (south of Cedar Hill between 74th & 77th Streets), Great Lawn, Nell Singer Lilac Walk (northeast of Sheep Meadow), directly behind the Metropolitan Museum of Art, behind the Delacorte Theater, and on either side of the Bethesda Fountain.

If you are in New York City in late March, visit the west side of the Jacqueline Kennedy Reservoir in Central Park, typically that is where you will find the first blooms. If you are here in early April, visit The Great Lawn to walk by a handful of beautiful white cherry trees. If you are here in late April, be sure to explore the Bridle Path, my favorite spot to photograph cherry trees!

Best-cherry-blossoms-new-york — At the Bridle Path you will find tons of trees! This spot gets very crowded, so try to arrive in the early morning.

How long do cherry blossoms last in Central Park?

You can see cherry blossoms in Central Park from late March until early May. Cherry trees bloom at different times, and once a tree is in full bloom, its flowers will remain for about a week. The petals will begin to fall after 7-9 days, depending on the weather.

Iconic Spots in Central Park and How to Find Them

Cherry Blossoms in Brooklyn Botanic Garden

With 52 acres of indoor and outdoor gardens, Brooklyn Botanic Garden is one of the best places to see cherry blossoms in NYC. The Cherry Cultivars Area and the Plant Family Collection are home to the cherry trees that bloom first every year.

The rest of the cherry blossoms will appear four or so weeks after that first bloom. If you visit Brooklyn Botanic Garden, first check out The Japanese Hill and Pond Garden, and then head west towards Cherry Walk! Magnolia Plaza is worth seeing as well, this area is usually in bloom along with the earliest cherries!

Cherry Blossoms on Roosevelt Island

Another of the best spots to see breathtaking cherry blossoms in New York City is Roosevelt Island, an island located in the East River, between Manhattan and Queens.

Although the island’s festival has been canceled since March 2020, making the trip to see Kwanzan trees on Roosevelt Island is worth it!

Roosevelt Island is home to Yoshino, Kwanzan, and Okame trees. Typically, Yoshino trees bloom the first week of April, and Kwanzan trees bloom in mid-April, or even later.

Insider’s Tips:

The majority of Kwanzan cherry trees are located on the south side of Roosevelt Island, on Cherry Tree Walk (West Loop Road) located by Cornell Tech (see the pictures above).
There is a handful of Yoshino trees in front of Duane Reade, and also across from Starbucks (see the picture below).

The largest number of Kwanzan trees on Roosevelt Island is on West Loop Road, south of Cornell Tech (see the map below).

More information for your visit to Roosevelt Island during cherry blossom season

Roosevelt Island can get very crowded, head there early in the morning. (The trees located closest to the bridge will have the sun blocked by the nearby buildings in the early morning).
Ride the tram to Roosevelt Island! You will be able to photograph the trees on Cherry Tree Walk from above, and they look beautiful.
The Cafe at Cornell Tech has a spacious indoor and outdoor sitting area with a beautiful view where you can stop by for snacks, salads, and coffee (see the photos below).

How to get to Roosevelt Island?

You can go to Roosevelt Island in various ways: via the Roosevelt Island Tramway, by taking the NYC Ferry Astoria Route, hopping on the Bus Q102, taking the F Train, driving by car, or by Uber.

After you exit the tram, turn left and you will see an entire row of cherry blossoms by the river. If you take the train, walk south towards Cornell Tech, continue under the bridge, and find the trees on your right.

Can I stay on Roosevelt Island?

Yes! The 224-room Graduate Hotel opened to guests in June 2021. The 18-story hotel is located next to Cornell Tech, the technology, business, law, and design campus of Cornell University, on the island.

The hotel’s highlight is Panorama Room, a rooftop bar and lounge offering breathtaking 360-degree views of New York.

Typically, cherry blossoms in New York City reach their peak any time between the end of March and the beginning of May. Visiting in late April increases your chances of seeing cherry blossoms in Central Park, Roosevelt Island, and Brooklyn Botanic Garden.

This historic, 5-star Newport mansion was once owned by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt and is one of the most iconic on the East Coast.

We stayed here for three nights and enjoyed an early breakfast overlooking the garden terrace, dinner in The Dining Room, and our spacious suite.

Regarding our dogs, upon arrival, we were provided with two beds and two water bowls. We felt that both of our pups were incredibly welcomed by the hotel’s friendly staff during our entire stay.

The Vanderbilt is located on Mary Street, within walking distance from many of Newport’s best restaurants, shops, and attractions including Downtown Newport, Bowen’s Wharf, Newport Harbor, Trinity Church, The International Tennis Hall of Fame, and St. Mary’s Church.

This upscale hotel was built in 1909 and has 33 guest rooms and suites that were reimagined and refreshed in Spring 2022, after our stay. The rooms range from 400 – 2,000 sq ft, and the guest suites feature a stylish sitting area.

The Vanderbilt is home to two restaurants, The Dining Room, and The Roof Deck. After a busy day exploring Newport, you can unwind in The Garden with a chilled glass of Aperol Spritz.

The Brenton Hotel, Newport, Rhode Island

The Brenton Hotel debuted in 2020 and is one of the best hotels in Newport, Rhode Island. We’ve stayed at this hotel twice in recent years, and I must say that their location is unbeatable.

This luxury boutique hotel offers beautiful views of Newport Harbor, along with nautical-inspired rooms that face the marina and historic Newport. The hotel has 57 rooms and an environmentally sensitive green rooftop where we enjoyed sipping on cocktails at sunset! We stayed in room 410 overlooking the marina.

Regarding our dogs, we took them for walks along the harbor, four times a day! Staying by the harbor was a beautiful experience for all of us (the pups included).

Take a walk to the Drift Cafe and pick up their delicious Acai bowls for breakfast, or walk to the White Horse Tavern, a historic restaurant dating back to 1673, where we enjoyed their farm-to-table cuisine and a lovely romantic dinner.

Be sure to visit the hotel’s restaurant, The Living Room, for breakfast, lunch, or dinner when they serve delicious “small plate” dishes, artisanal beers, fine wine, and the best craft cocktails.

The Woodstock Inn is a New England gem that has been cherished for decades. The original property, Richardson’s Tavern, was built in 1793 and renamed The Eagle Hotel in 1830. Years later, during the tourism boom of the mid-19th century, the new Woodstock Inn was built on the tavern’s original site, quickly becoming Vermont’s first winter sports center for tourists.

Regarding our dogs, we stayed in a room in the Garden Level Wing reserved for guests who are traveling with pets. The area has easy access to an outside garden.

The Woodstock Inn is located in the heart of the historic town of Woodstock, within walking distance from shops and restaurants, including The Prince & The Pauper and Au Comptoir. We loved trying the maple creeme at Woodstock Scoops, and I bought goodies from several of the local shops in the village that I know I’ll cherish forever. Be sure to check out F.H. Gillingham & Sons, a market that has been in business for 130 years!

This luxury resort has 142 elegant rooms and suites that embrace Vermont’s style, a Forbes 4-Star Rated Spa with therapy rooms, and two swimming pools.

The Woodstock Inn is home to two restaurants, The Red Rooster, a restaurant offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and Richardson’s Tavern, a bar featuring local craft brews and spirits.

The Colony Hotel, Kennebunkport, Maine

The Colony Hotel closes seasonally: from late October, until mid-May. See below for another pet-friendly hotel in Kennebunkport.

This hotel is a member of the Historic Hotels of America. Originally the site of the Ocean Bluff Hotel 1872, the current hotel opened in 1914 as The Breakwater Court. We stayed here for three nights (in room 343), and we appreciated the homemade-style breakfast, the views from our room, and everything about the hotel.

The Colony Hotel is located on Ocean Avenue, within walking distance from Kennebunkport’s Dock Square, shopping, and restaurants. One day we explored Goose Rocks Beach (a beach bordered by Cape Porpoise), had lobster rolls in the dining room at Pier 77 with excellent views, and drinks with snacks at Batson River Brewing & Distilling – all were highly recommended to us and we loved them!

At this hotel, you will find 125 rooms located in five separate buildings. As soon as you enter the hotel’s main building, you will notice the classic New England charm to be admired. If you are traveling with a small group or family, there are two private houses to stay at as well.

With regards to eating and dining at the hotel, breakfast is complimentary to guests, and served daily on the Porch and Grand Dining Room. The Marine Room has a menu that is available daily (the ravioli were delicious!) until 9:00 PM.

Reminder: Restaurants in Kennebunkport close very early, so be sure to make dinner plans early!

Amara Cay Resort, Islamorada, Florida

Pet Policy: Guests bringing dogs will be charged a $50 non-refundable fee per pet per day, a maximum of two dogs per room.

Amara Cay Resort is a hidden gem located in Islamorada, one of six villages of the Florida Keys. The hotel is located 90 miles from Miami, and 80 miles from Key West. We stayed here for five nights, and I recommend walking out to the resort’s private beach immediately upon arrival (especially if you arrive during sunset as we did!).

At this tropical resort, you will find 110 rooms, each with a private balcony. Our oceanfront suite was on the top floor, it had a living room, a balcony, and a spacious bedroom with large windows, perfect for watching the sunrise. Overall, this hotel was ideal for us with dogs.

Amara Cay Resort’s amenities include bicycles, kayaks, paddleboards, and board games on their outdoor lawn. The resort also offers a heated pool and a private beach for guests to enjoy.

We ate at the resort’s outdoor Tiki Bar multiple times because we loved their key lime pie and piña colada. We also went out to dinner at Ciao Hound Italian Kitchen & Bar and had some of the best appetizers ever. We picked the baked spinach artichoke fonduta, and their prosciutto-wrapped shrimp. For dinner, my husband and I had the mahi-mahi.

The Westin Harborview, Portland, Maine

Pet Policy: Two dogs are allowed per room, for no additional fee.

The Westin Portland Harborview is a historic hotel that originally opened in 1927 as the Eastland Park Hotel. We stayed here for four nights, appreciated that there was no pet fee, and loved how easy it was to access the popular points of interest. I’ve stayed at several Westin hotels over the last decade, and their beds are heavenly!

Regarding our dogs, upon arrival at the hotel, they each got a plush Heavenly Dog Bed that was fluffy and comfortable. The hotel and its staff are extremely dog-friendly, so that was amazing. Taking our dogs to walk at Bug Light Park during sunset was one of the highlights of our trip!

If you are a foodie, then Portland is for you. While visiting Portland you must try the donuts at either 88 Donuts, Hifi Donuts, or The Holy Donut. I was impressed with Portland’s standout donut shops, and couldn’t believe the variety of flavors available. And if you love lobster, head over to Highroller Lobster Co. or Luke’s Lobster Portland Pier, for one of the freshest lobster rolls you’ll ever try. On our last night, we had drinks at ViA VECCiA and dinner at Scales, a spacious seaside venue for local seafood – I highly recommend both!

Portland’s must-see lighthouses are located within 5 miles of this hotel.

Because of its location in the heart of Portland’s downtown area, its excellent customer service, and no pet fee, this is one of the best pet-friendly hotels in Portland – hands down!

Glover Park Hotel, Georgetown, Washington DC

Location: Washington DC

Pet Policy: Pet-friendly rooms with a one-time fee of $125 per stay.

This boutique hotel is located near Georgetown University, and many international embassies that are situated on Embassy Row, less than a mile from the hotel. Georgetown is a historic area known for its cobblestone streets and traditional buildings. Near this hotel, you will also find American University and National Cathedral Gardens with a botanical garden and horticultural sanctuary.

Regarding our dogs, we received many goodies for them! We stayed here one night, and it was our first time visiting Georgetown. I was impressed with the beautiful homes in the Georgetown area and had an enjoyable walk with our dogs in the morning.

The Glover Park Hotel has one restaurant, Glover Park Grill, that serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner to its guests. We had dinner here and ordered chicken parmesan.

Indigo Inn, Charleston, South Carolina

Location: Charleston, SC

Update: As of September 2022 Indigo Inn no longer accepts pets. See below for pet-friendly hotels in Charleston.

This historic hotel is located in Downtown Charleston, a short walk from the Holy City’s treasures such as Charleston’s City Market, Rainbow Row, King Street, College of Charleston, Waterfront Park, and The Battery.

We booked this hotel one hour before arrival. We were having an impossible time locating a hotel in Downtown Charleston that allowed medium-sized dogs. We stayed here for five nights, and the hotel’s excellent location helped us maximize our time in the city.

The Indigo Inn has 40 historic guest rooms and onsite parking – which was a plus since the majority of hotels in the historic area of Charleston do not have a parking option. The hotel offers a daily wine & cheese reception for its guests.

Two spots that I recommend are The Watch Rooftop where we enjoyed drinks with a friend and Indaco on King St. where we had wood-fired pizzas with my husband’s cousin.

One Ocean Resort & Spa is Northeast Florida’s only artfully-inspired boutique resort. Regarded
as the “Nantucket of the South,” Atlantic Beach is known for its shingle-style mansions and cottages along Beach Avenue and Ocean Street and boasts the most expansive stretch of sand between Amelia Island, Ponte Vedra, and St. Augustine.

This AAA Four-Diamond Award property is located on Ocean Blvd, and the amenities include a luxury oceanfront spa, an outdoor swimming pool, and a 24-hour fitness center. We stayed here for four nights, witnessed unbelievable pink sunsets, enjoyed morning and afternoon walks on the beach with our dogs, and had a room with an excellent backdrop of the ocean. If you’re looking for a laid-back, beach-chic atmosphere, this hotel is for you.

During the day you can stroll the Beaches Town Center and its various local shops. For breakfast, we grabbed a cup of coffee, tea, and pastries at Southern Grounds Co., and at night we enjoyed live music and dinner at The Local. If you love custards, you must try a scoop of Whit’s Frozen Custard right across the street from the resort – it was so good we went daily.

One Ocean Resort is home to Azurea Restaurant, featuring breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the property – we had some of the best cocktails here!

It is arguably one of the best hotels Northeast Florida has to offer, with 193 beachfront and beach-view rooms with luxurious beds custom-designed specifically for the resort.

If you are interested in visiting St. Augustine, this resort is 32 miles away from St. Augustine’s historic district, a 40-50 minute drive via Florida A1A.

Jacksonville Travel Guide & Where to Stay in Atlantic Beach

The Residences at Biltmore Asheville, North Carolina

Location: Asheville, NC

Pet Policy: Two pets in select pet-friendly condos. There is a $100 nonrefundable pet fee.

The Residences at Biltmore is a condo hotel located on 700 Biltmore Avenue, just 1/2 mile from the gates of The Biltmore Estate, and 2 miles from Downtown Asheville. Asheville is pretty well-known for its breweries and craft beer industry – there are more than 30 breweries!

Every room at The Residences at Biltmore has a full-sized kitchen, gas fireplace, private patio or balcony, and at least one large bathroom with a glass-enclosed shower. We stayed here for three nights, in a suite that had everything we needed.

We took our dogs with us to the following dog-friendly spots in Asheville: breakfast at the Sunny Point Café, a family-owned restaurant serving American comfort food with a covered outdoor dining area, beer tasting at Green Man Brewery, an award-winning beautiful brewery with a great layout (we sat outside in the upper bar), and dinner at The Funkatorium, a rustic pub with an amazing menu, a barrel room, and a dog-friendly patio – I highly recommend all of these!

We’ve often booked a pet-friendly hotel for a quick stay or only for the night, to rest and continue with our drive the following morning.

The five pet-friendly hotels below turned out to be good options for us.

Hotel Zena Viceroy Washington DC – Located next to Thomas Circle Park. The hotel is a 13-minute walk from the White House.

Two dogs per room. Pets stay free.

Residence Inn by Marriott Charlotte Uptown NC – In the Uptown area, a 2-minute walk from the Spectrum Center sports and events venue. Large fields on both sides of the hotel.

Maximum two pets per room. Nonrefundable $100 pet fee per stay.

Hotel Indigo Jacksonville FL – Adjacent to a beautiful walking path by a lake, we really enjoyed it. A 15-minute drive from both downtown Jacksonville and the beach.

Tips for Traveling with Pets

If you are traveling with dogs in a car, I suggest to pack the following items:

Gallons of water (potable water is not always available)
collapsible dog bowls
non-slip dog bowl
blankets (I purchased 29 in by 30 in)
round cotton balls
self-adhesive first aid gauze with scissors (this is a must)
We bring our Furbo with us, to watch the dogs if we step out.

Wooden Pet Barrier

We also always travel with a wooden pet barrier that we use to block the entrance to our hotel room. This is an absolute must for us because one of our dogs likes to open doors. The wooden pet barrier we have is lightweight, has three panels, is 30 inches tall, and stays permanently right in front of the hotel room’s door, as close to the door as possible.

Our dogs are a bit afraid of it, so they do not get close to it. When we are not traveling, we use our wooden pet barrier daily at home to keep the younger dog from bothering the older dog while they eat their food.

Hello from Newport! We drove from New York to Rhode Island yesterday and will be up here for the next six days. After checking in, we went up to the hotel’s rooftop to enjoy the best view of Newport Harbor from above.

I am so happy to be here, and I am looking forward to visiting our favorite spots in the city, as well as a few others that have been on my list for a while!

Tuckernuck Striped Sweater

This nautical-inspired striped sweater that I got from Tuckernuck is definitely a splurge, but it is probably one of the best sweaters that I own. Here is another lovely option. It has a classic design with a modern twist – a split hem and tortoise buttons on the side. The fabric is 100% cotton and the quality is excellent.

This sweater is available in navy as well, and I like to pair it with white jeans, and then I complete the look with these timeless neutral sandals from Margaux.

I was familiar with Faena Hotel in Buenos Aires, so when it was announced that Faena Group would open a hotel in Miami Beach, I knew it would be impeccably designed. Alan Faena and I have a thing in common – we were born in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Walking into any Faena Hotel is quite an experience, especially the one located in Miami Beach. After you walk through the expansive great hall lined with gold-leafed columns, and you open the doors out into the terrace, you are greeted by a 10-foot-high skeleton that is sure to take your breath away!

One of the most eye-catching pieces that I’ve ever seen outdoors is a Damien Hirst sculpture titled “Gone But Not Forgotten.” The enormous woolly mammoth skeleton is on display in the garden of the Faena Hotel. This breathtaking sculpture is dipped in 24-karat-gold and stands inside a temperature-controlled glass case overlooking the ocean.

Together with my family, we’ve celebrated anniversaries, birthdays, and numerous special occasions at this spot over the years. The bar and lounge area are stunning, the service is exceptional and the food is exquisite. The minute you enter the room, you will be captivated by the vibrant furniture, lush décor, red cushions, and delightful chandelier.

If you like steakhouses, you must try Los Fuegos at Faena. Francis Mallmann is a James Beard Award-winning chef, and his specialty is authentic South American (Argentine) dinning, including the traditional “asado.” Chef Mallmann is one of the world’s top reigning grill masters. The menu at Los Fuegos includes wood-oven empanadas (love!), skirt steak or prime rib-eye served with chimichurri sauce, and handmade potato gnocchi (a staple growing up in Buenos Aires!). Vegetarian options are available as well.

Veranda Restaurant at Faena

Another option at the Faena is Veranda, an elegant breakfast option overlooking the hotel’s pool. This restaurant is open seven days a week and closes daily at 11:00 AM, so be sure to arrive early! I had been here before, but my husband had not, so we decided to have brunch here on Saturday morning. I love the casual vibes at Veranda, it is the perfect spot to start your weekend!

We both enjoyed our brunch at this intimate outdoor eatery. While he ordered the huevos rancheros, I opted for the acaí bowl (healthy and delicious!). Every breakfast should be this nice!

The city of Jacksonville had always been at the top of my list of cities to visit in Florida! Jacksonville has 22 miles of beaches, beautiful historic neighborhoods, parks, museums, outstanding golf courses and fantastic local restaurants.

We drove down to Miami to visit my family during the holidays, and on our way back to New York we enjoyed an amazing week in the city of Jacksonville!

I was invited by Jacksonville Florida Tourism to explore the city and share my favorite activities. We visited during the third week of January, and the weather was amazing. It was breezy at night, and we had plenty of sunshine during the day.

Where To Stay in Atlantic Beach FL

There are so many different experiences to have in Jacksonville. This time around we were looking to explore the fun things to do in town, relax by the ocean, and enjoy long walks on the beach. One Ocean Resort & Spa in Atlantic Beach was perfect for doing all of that.

Located about 25 miles south of the Georgia state line and 350 miles north of Miami, Jacksonville was the first stop we made after leaving Miami. We were escaping the snow, so spending a few more days by the beach was exactly what we were looking for.

One Ocean Resort & Spa is a luxury resort that features guest rooms with floor-to-ceiling views of the Atlantic Ocean. We stayed in one of their Deluxe King Rooms, which offered a breathtaking view of the ocean. Upon arriving, we opened the windows, and my husband noticed that we could hear the waves crashing from inside the room, he was so impressed! The guest rooms feature deluxe beds custom-designed for the hotel, and our bed was one of the most comfortable beds we’ve ever slept on. The hotel’s oceanic-inspired décor, combined with ocean views create an incredibly soothing experience for its guests.

What To Do in Jacksonville

In Jax, as the locals call it, you will discover that this perfectly positioned city along the Atlantic Ocean in northeast Florida, has something for everyone! If you are looking to explore the coast, Atlantic Beach, Ponte Vedra Beach and Amelia Island are all within an hour’s drive from downtown Jacksonville. If you enjoy staying active or spending time outdoors, Jacksonville offers hiking and biking trails that will definitely get your adrenaline going.

Art lovers can enjoy an afternoon at the Cummer Museum & Gardens (my favorite place!), or at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Finally, did you know that Jacksonville is home to the World Golf Hall of Fame, The Players Championship, PGA Tour and Champions Tour, as well as home to world-class golf courses?!

Where To Eat in Jacksonville

Southern Grounds & Co. – Quickly became one of our favorite breakfast spots in Jacksonville! Their gluten-free blueberry muffins are so delicious! I loved their cute indoor area, if you are ever in town, check it out!

Whit’s Frozen Custard – This is one of the most delicious cold desserts! Whit’s Frozen Custard is located across the street from The One Ocean Resort so it was easy for us to grab a frozen custard every single day! The flavors that I ordered the most were: mint, banana & raspberry, and the last one was my favorite.

The Local on Neptune Beach – The Local is a fun place with a cool atmosphere and live music every night! We grabbed dinner here one day and had such a great time. Their fresh lemonade is one of the best I’ve ever had.

Flying Iguana Taqueria & Tequila Bar – Tacos & margaritas? Yes, please! This restaurant has an entire menu that is gluten free, how amazing is that?! My husband and I both love Mexican food so we had to try it out!

Azurea at the One Ocean Resort – We enjoyed one of the best fine dining experiences here! Azurea is a beautiful restaurant located inside the One Ocean Resort that offers a seafood-centric American menu. We loved the mussels as the appetizer, the seabass as the main course, and the brownie for dessert! The seabass for dinner is a must-have! It was probably the best fish I have ever eaten.

Looking to enjoy the beauty of Islamorada Florida? Then you’re in the right place because in today’s blog post, I will share where we stayed, where we ate, and a list of hotels you can stay at while visiting Islamorada.

Islamorada is one of six villages in The Florida Keys.

What is Islamorada known for?

Islamorada is a beautiful destination in Florida that is known as the Sport Fishing Capital of the World. You will find peaceful scenic views, amazing food, coral reefs, and an easygoing atmosphere in a tropical setting.

Why Visit Islamorada, Florida?

Staying in Islamorada is always a good idea! For us, January, February, and March are the best months to escape New York’s snow and enjoy Florida’s sandy beaches.

We drove down to Florida to spend time with my family during the holidays, as well as for sunshine, palm trees, and bliss. My husband had never been to the Florida Keys, so we thought it’d be the perfect time to visit because of its proximity to Miami. I must add that Amara Cay Resort welcomes pets, which is important for us traveling with our dogs.

Where to Stay in Islamorada

Amara Cay Resort has 110 rooms, each with a private balcony. The resort has its own heated pool and private beach for guests to enjoy. Both my husband and I loved the hammocks under the palm trees, thatched huts, and stunning ocean views.

Waking up with those sunrises was quite dreamy! If you are looking for an ocean-front property with a laid-back atmosphere, then Amara Cay Resort is the place for you.

Another reason to stay at Amara Cay Resort is the amenities the property has to offer. You can enjoy the bicycles, kayaks, paddleboards and board games on their outdoor lawn, or take a dip in their heated pool before heading to the Tiki Bar for a piña colada (I couldn’t get enough of them!).

During our recent stay at Amara Cay Resort, we stayed in an oceanfront suite on the top floor – it had a living room, a balcony, and a spacious bedroom with a King bed. The views from the rooms were spectacular, and staying there felt like a home away from home.

Reel Burger & Tiki Bar

Breezy poolside spot for classic American cuisine and tropical cocktails against a backdrop of swaying palm trees. Their grilled chicken Caesar salad and key lime pie were both amazing!

Ciao Hound Italian Kitchen & Bar

At Ciao Hound I enjoyed some of the best appetizers I’ve ever had in my life! I highly recommend the baked spinach artichoke fonduta and their prosciutto-wrapped shrimp. For dinner, my husband and I both picked the mahi-mahi, and it was excellent.

Are 1-2 days in Islamorada worth it?

Yes! Seeing Islamorada in 1-2 days is easy because it is a small village. Make a stop in Islamorada on your way to or from Key West since you will drive through it each time. Islamorada is the perfect destination for those looking to enjoy a relaxing atmosphere with tropical views, and fun outdoor activities.

How far is Islamorada?

The trip from Miami to Islamorada is around 90 miles (145 km) via I-95 and US-1. The drive usually takes 2.5 hours, with normal driving conditions.

If you are making a stop in Islamorada after visiting Key West, the trip is 80 miles (129 km). Those are the best ways to get to Islamorada.

Which airport is best for Islamorada?

Miami International Airport (MIA) is 79 miles (127 km) from Islamorada, a 2-hour drive.

Fort Lauderdale Hollywood Airport (FTL) is 108 miles (174 km) from Islamorada, a 2+ hour drive.

Orlando International Airport is 311 miles (500 km) from Islamorada, a 5-hour drive.

A final note!

If you are trying to decide whether to stay in Key West or Islamorada, the answer depends on two things: the amount of driving you are comfortable doing, and whether you prefer a relaxing atmosphere or a touristy spot. Those were the two factors that made us pick Islamorada over Key West. We were seeking a peaceful atmosphere that was a relatively easy drive from Miami.

The trip from Miami to Key West is around 170 miles and the drive takes 4+ hours.

The Vanderbilt Auberge Resort in Newport, RI

Good morning my loves! There are many beautiful destinations close to New York City, so this year we hope to explore some of the coastal cities that are accessible to us by car. So happy that our first trip of the year brought us to New England – a quick three-hour drive from Manhattan.

The image above perfectly sums up our vacation in Newport, Rhode Island. I am delighted to share with you guys our stay at The Vanderbilt, the loveliest areas that we visited, as well as our ride along Ocean Drive and Bellevue Avenue in a classic car from the 1960s.

A Perfect Winter Stay at The Vanderbilt Auberge Resort in Newport, RI

We planned this vacation on a whim, fully aware that the weather reports announced rainy days with 20+ degrees. But we got lucky, and the city of Newport welcomed us with temperatures in the 50s and lots of warm sunshine.

THE VANDERBILT – TOP 20 HOTELS IN NEW ENGLAND – CONDE NAST TRAVELER 2019

The Vanderbilt is a luxury boutique hotel that was originally built in 1909 by Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, a scion of the Vanderbilt family. It has been restored to its former glory and is one of the few private homes of the era to operate for guests as a fully functioning and top luxury hotel in Rhode Island. Today, The Vanderbilt Hotel comprises 33 rooms and luxury suites, a spa, and a fitness center with indoor and outdoor pools. Overall, we LOVED our stay here, everyone was so friendly!

Breakfast at The Vanderbilt Hotel is oh-so-good! We started our first day with one of the best avocado toasts I’ve ever had, a fruit plate, toasts with homemade jelly, hot tea & coffee, and fresh orange juice.

The breakfast room is connected to the hotel’s beautiful Garden Terrace (see below!) overlooking Trinity Church in the back.

After breakfast, it was time to explore Newport… Our first stop was Gurney’s Newport Resort & Marina located on Goat Island, and surrounded by Narragansett Bay. Our pups loved feeling the breeze from every angle!

Meandering through Bowen’s Wharf & Bannister’s Wharf is a fun experience in the early afternoon. If you want to get a warm cup of coffee, head to The Coffee Grinder, a charming & iconic coffee shop overlooking historic Newport Harbor. Be sure to walk around the pedestrian area, you will find boutiques, galleries, cookie stores, and restaurants – it is so lovely and enjoyable.

Later on that day, we headed to The Vanderbilt’s fine dining restaurant. The ambiance was spectacular, and the food was exquisite. New England clam chowder is a must when visiting this area of the country, and the one I ordered was amazing!

For dessert, we opted for an all-time favorite of mine, the classic Italian panna cotta, and delicious beignets. The dishes were beautifully presented and seasoned beautifully, exactly what we were craving. Grabbing a table by the fireplace was the coziest too!

The following morning after breakfast, we walked over to Saint Mary’s Church, and did a little sightseeing by foot. The day started out with some clouds, but by 1 PM the sun was shining bright again.

One of the highlights of our vacation was traveling back in time to vintage Newport in a classic car. Nothing better than touring the city’s beautiful architecture and coastal scenery in a 1966 Ford Mustang! We appreciate that The Vanderbilt organized this beautiful ride for us!

The Vanderbilt offers tons of activities to enjoy while visiting, including ‘spirit sessions’ (to learn how to make delicious cocktails while exploring the spirits of the regions of the world), The Oysters ($1 oysters from 5:00 to 9:00 PM at The Bar), 30-minute winery tours at the Newport Vineyards, a culinary walking tour through Newport, a Cheese Masterclass, a private behind-the-scenes tour of the Breakers, an educational seal-watching boat tour, private sailing lessons at the Newport Yacht Club, as well as the opportunity to learn the art of glass blowing. As you can see, we opted for the classic car experience!

Be sure to drive along Ocean Drive. There are multiple spots where you can stop to take photos. It is a popular Newport scenic tour that has been designated a National Historic Landmark District!

A visit to Newport is not complete without a visit to one of the historic mansions. The Breakers, The Elms, Rosecliff & Marble House are renowned for their exceptional elegance (during this trip we toured Rosecliff). These mansions were built during the city’s Colonial, Victorian, and Gilded Age, and can be found along Bellevue Avenue.

We arrived back at our hotel, and it was time to pack to drive back to New York City. This hotel was the perfect base for our stay, with spacious suites, a fabulous lobby area, a prime location, and an incredibly friendly staff.

Below you can see our room, I thought the decoration and space were fantastic, especially since we had to fit two puppy beds (the hotel provided these for our stay). If you’re looking for a wonderfully located, beautiful, and upscale place to stay, then I’d definitely recommend looking into The Vanderbilt for your stay in Newport.

Afternoon Tea at the Miami Biltmore Hotel

On Sunday I spent the afternoon at the gorgeous Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables, Florida. One of my sisters is getting married next year, so her wedding festivities officially began that day. She invited her bridesmaids for an Afternoon Tea at the Biltmore’s magnificent lobby, alongside live harp music (beautiful!). My sister explained the schedule of events, as well as what she has in mind for her big day coming up. We had such a lovely time, and the weather was perfect as you can see in these images (no rain at all).

The afternoon tea was quite an experience – if you ever visit South Florida, I highly recommend coming to see the hotel’s grounds, as well as sitting down for tea, pastries, and scones (as soft & delicious as the ones that my grandma used to make). Two restaurants located within the hotel that I recommend are Palme d’Or for French fine dining, and Fontana Restaurant for Italian fine dining – both are truly exquisite. The Biltmore Hotel is also a very popular venue for weddings/destination weddings.

Now let’s talk about this little aqua dress! The details in the back are beautiful, and I thought it was perfect for the kick-off of my sister’s wedding festivities. I love the aqua color (and received so many compliments on it!) – I think this color can look great on all skin tones. The dress fits comfortably, and I really like how it flairs out.

My shoes are from Coach, and I’ve worn them in a few previous blog posts. Not only do they match almost everything, but they also provide height and are comfortable.

PS: I had the White Tea – so good 🙂
